My favourite scene is the drinking contest and my favourite match is kane vs the great khali,a match with 2 giants. I recomend you this DVD
I remember Summerslam 2007 mainly for the weird, poppy 'Wind it Up' bookend theme for the event. Pretty uncharacteristic for a wrasslin' event, wouldn't you say? It should be a little worrying that that theme is the most memorable thing about this event.
Well, the returns of Triple H and Rey Mysterio after they had had career threatening injuries was also memorable, I suppose.
HHH was in excellent shape coming into this match. I never liked 'muscles-on-muscles HHH'. The streamlined, pretty sharp looking Hunter here is what he really should be. And yes, he's going to beat Booker T (I don't think that's much of a spoiler). It's pedestrian but it's a necessary evil and The Game plays it well, as does Booker - although both were lumbered with dull monickers at this point (King Book-ah vs. King of Kings, yawn).
More of note is Mysterio's return - What. Is. That. Silver. Outfit? And why's Rey FAT? Is it that everything HHH worked off, Rey took on or something? It's a decent match actually - a better 'match' than the HHH / Booker return, and feels like it means something, but it's still pedestrian because you know roughly how it's gonna end. Ironically, Rey was hyped to heck coming back at this point, and ended up injuring himself again almost as quickly. D'oh!
So what about the rest? I could care less about Kane vs. Finlay, and neither should you. The Triple Threat match isn't bad. There have been better, there have been worse. I actually think it's a little underrated but it's not genius-level either, you know? The Battle Royal is a waste of time, as you'd expect. When you see 'Beer Drinking Contest' I'm sure you know who's going to turn up. :)
Actually, the match I had the most hope for was CM Punk vs. John Morrison. Both are excellent wrestlers, forerunners for their generation, and both were hot as heck here. So what went wrong? The match felt flat. I don't remember anything about it except turning to my friend at the time going 'what was that?' And she even agreed it was lackluster. I can't put my finger on it, but the match felt like they were going through the motions. And there was a complete lack of spectacle to make up for it. Not. Good.
The Great Khali vs. Batista... HAH HAH HAH. Did you think it was going to be any good? It must be fun to be naive. :)
And then Cena vs. Orton. I've seen most of their matches - guys, I'm as bored as the other man here in 2011 - but this was when both were smoking and their rivalry was growing to a fever pitch. In the opposite to the Punk / Morrison match, I can't put my finger on why this match was so good... but it was. It was one of the better matches of the night. Actually, best match of the night? Yeah, probably.
There are extras - at least WWE still put some onto the disk - but when the match is Kane vs. Khali, it's hard to be interested. I don't want to sound too fussy, but I'd rather have seen the Flair vs. Khali match from a few weeks before.
To summarise... it's a middling disk. It's not anything bad (except Punk / Morrison, and even then I can't tell you WHY). It's just not brilliant or unpredictable or anything either. It's hardly the spectacle of SummerSlam 1997, 1990 or anything like that. It's just... another Pay Per View. This one is only notable because of the amount of 'returns', an actually decent Orton / Cena compromise that sticks out from the others as being volatile, and because of the 'Wind It Up, Wind It Up' theme. Well, at least it's quirky. And the box design's nice. Just don't buy this hoping that the wrestling is going to change your life. It's a nice 'filler' disk until you get something outstanding (Like I said, SummerSlam 1997 is certainly a decent option). And that's that.
One of my fave Summerslams, i was really looking forward to the return of Triple H.I was so excited in the weeks prior to this. Also Orton v Cena is a good match too. Loved this edition, was great. Definitely a Summerslam to add to your collection!
