quite possibly my favourite out of all the tagged classics so far! :) From start to finish SS '98 was a solid show starting with Val Venis and the VERY underated D-Lo Brown who had a very good opening match, which was better than the main events the WWE put out these days. it ended with Val getting Dq'd and doing the Moneyshot on the ref.
Kai En Tai vs The Oddities, this provided humour to the ppv and a great 4-man chokeslam as a finisher (awesome!!!) and also Insane Clow Posse played the oddities to the ring.
Xpac vs Jeff Jarrett (hair vs hair) - the match itself is largely forgettable except for when double j shoved xpac crotch first into the ring post, i still wince watching it lol. also the actual cutting of the hair was rubbish as the razor stopped working halfway through.
Edge and Sable vs Marc Mero and Jacqueline - this match is basically a repeat of the marc mero/sable vs goldust/luna match from 'Mania XIV. sable literally does the same thing move for move that she did except the crowd werent cheering as loudly as they had before. its a shame this match was so bad as it was edge's ppv debut for the WWF.
Lion's Den Match - Ken Shamrock vs Owen Hart - this match was good mainly for the novelty of the actual octagon used to hold the match. it wasnt really a bad match but because of the size of the octogan both wrestlers were very limited in what they could do.
No Holds Barred, Falls Count Anywhere match - New Age Outlaws vs Mankind - this turned out to be a handicap match as Kane no-showed. Mick Foley did the best he could with the Outlaws who, to be honest, are mid card wrestlers at best. it was a decent match but by no means the best match on the ppv, that was the ladder match.
HHH vs The Rock, Ladder match - The best match of the night!!!! the highlight clip before the match showed how the rivalry between DX and the Nation evolved to being between HHH and the Rock. this is possibly my favourite match between two of them and the crowd were really into the match as well. it had lots of spots and Chyna helping HHH at the end made the crowd go nuts and it was great seeing the Rock as the no.1 heel in the company finally getting his just desserts after 9 months as the IC champ.
Stone Cold vs The Undertaker - this match should have been a lot better than it turned out. the main reason for this is early in the match when the undertaker bent down to give Austin a backdrop Austin kicked him and Taker straightened up so fast the back of his head hit Austin in the chin, making him dazed for the rest of the match. Austin himself admitted that he wasnt pleased with his performance and i'd agree. Austin and Taker were both at the height of their careers at this point and it could easily have been the match of the year if austin hadnt got dazed. still, it was a solid performance and having Kane come out at the end to stand with Taker to stare down Stone Cold was a great teaser for the following ppv.

SS '99

i'll just write about the better matches on this ppv as it is the lesser of the two summerslams

tag team turmoil - this is one of the best matches on the card and shows everyone that Edge and Christian were a great tag team who could compete with anyone. it was great to see how far Edge had come from the previous SS to this one. the ending of the Acolytes defeating the Hollys spoiled it a bit but it was still a good match.
"Love her or Leave her" - great match and shane was on top form as always
"Kiss my Ass match" - could have been better but did have some funny moments in it. Billy Gunn plain and simple is not on the level the rock is, never has been and never will be. the match would have been better had the rock worked with someone else (the rock joked the following night on Raw that his opponents were "monkey crap" lol)
Stone Cold vs HHH vs Mankind - match is mainly good for jesse ventura throwing shane mcmahon from the ring and calling him a little bastard and for HHH assaulting Stone Cold after the match to build up their rivalry for the following ppvs. i was a little let down mankind won the match given that Austin was still white hot as a baby face and HHH was easily the best heel at the time. they didnt need mankind to make it any bigger. it ended up not mattering since HHH beat mankind for the belt the following night on RAW.

Two great summerslams!

Summerslam 1998
This is a pretty solid PPV, the matches involved all have good stories behind them and are enjoyable to watch.
The Hair vs Hair match is great, fast paced action and even though a common jeff jarret guitar ending, it was still pretty good, although, when they shave the losers head, they don't do a very good job!
The No holds bar match is short but eventful, spike piledriver on a chair! The story leading into this is interesting and this match is the third best of the night.
The ladder match, even though slow at times, is still one of the best one on one ladder matches i have seen, even though that looking back now, the spots in the match aren't that stand-out or unique, it is still a great match and probably the best on the card.
The WWF title match is the average affair, not as good as the ladder match, but it is still very good, undertaker hits a leg drop from the top turnbuckle to the annouce table and the match is memorable, and finishes off a great PPV.
Other matches such as the Lions Den match and the European title match are pretty good and may not be as good as the ones i wrote about in detail, but are worth watching as they are still pretty entertaining., it was also nice seeing edge make an appearance.

Summerslam 99
This is just slightly better than the 1998 PPV.
The european and IC title match is great, the ending is pretty surprising and is the perfect PPV opener, fast, interesting and very well done.
The tag team turmoil match shows the great skills of the tag divison here, as the tag divison would only get better from here, Edges' spear from the railing is rather epic and i had to watch several times, it was awesome!
The Hardcore championship match was good, seeing Road Dogg running around with Snow and boss man was cool, but i thought the match went on for a bit too long, seeing them go outside the arena like they did was great, but got boring fast.
The "love her or leave her" street fight was great, lots of action, great match, lots of highlights that will make you want to watch the match several more times, some of the spots you would see shane mcmahon do several times in the future, so this is one of the best matches of the night.
The Kiss my ass match was alright, as was the tag team match, not the best matches of the night, but still both worth watching, the kiss my ass match is rather funny at times.
The triple threat match is great, three great men in the match with Jesse Ventura as the guest ref gives us a great match, not filled with many spots, it still was great though, the best match of the night, but the crowd seemed to be somewhat dead after the match was over, the segment after the match i though was rather unnecessary, but in the months following, it would make sense.

Overall, the PPVs here are great and feature some great matches, as i said Summerslam 1999 is just slighty better than Summerslam 1998, but both of these PPVs are worth the purchase, go buy it!
