2009 starts off with the Royal Rumble, which is the beginning of the Road to Wrestlemania, nd on this year the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania. 4 Championships would be defended, and the main event will be the 30 man over the top rope Royal Rumble, who will earn a championship match of their choice at Wrestlemania 25?

1. ECW Championship: Jack Swagger (c) def. Matt Hardy - 6/10

This opener was a solid start and Swagger shows some good wrestling styles, and Hardy played his part, but came up short in trying to regain his title that he lost earlier in the month.

2. WWE Women's Championship: Melina def. Beth Phoenix w/ Santino Marella - 5/10

Santino was in the corner of Beth and tried to help her keep the belt, but this didn't work out as Melina stole the victory and won the Women's Championship.

3. World Heavyweight Championship: John Cena (c) def. JBL w/ Shawn Michaels - 6/10

This wasn't a great match, but the rivalry that these 2 had on Smackdown in 2005 was good and also in 2008. But with HBK in the corner of the challenger he would be released from JBL if he helped him win the title, so HBK gave some Sweet Chin Music to both competitors, but Cena was able to recover and retain the title.

4. WWE Championship: No Disqualification Match - Edge def. Jeff Hardy (c) - 7/10

This had a shocking start and end to the match when Vickie Guerrero made the match no DQ, and then as Jeff Hardy seemed to win, Guerrero pulled the referee out of the ring, and Jeff's brother Matt came to help, but instead of delivering a con-chair-to on Edge he smashed the chair over Hardy and Edge won back the WWE Championship, giving Hardy a short reign.

5. 2009 Royal Rumble Match: Randy Orton last eliminates Triple H to win - 8/10

This Rumble had some surprises and good eliminations. Orton and Triple came out 7 and 8 and were in it through to the end. Orton's Legacy member's Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase entered and helped fight off the participants. Rob Van Dam made a surprise entrant in the Rumble. The Undertaker was quite dominant. But Orton found a way to get rid of Triple H after The Game got rid of DiBiase and Rhodes, and Orton was heading to Wrestlemania 25.

Extras include a story of Randy Orton, an interview with RVD and some more. . . . .

Overall rating: 8/10

2009's Royal Rumble was actually pretty good, though I do feel it was predictable

ECW Championship: Jack Swagger Vs Matt Hardy 3/5

This was quite a good opener to the show, Swagger had come into ECW 4 months earlier and was shooting up the ranks, he beat Matt Hardy on an episode of ECW and this was Matt's rematch. They both work very well together, and it was nice opener for the 2009 Rumble.

Womans Championship: Beth Phoenix Vs Melina 2/5

Again both of the ladies work well together, not much to say about this match but Beth really shows how powerful a diva she is.

World Heavyweight Championship: John Cena Vs JBL 3/5

A month of working for JBL, Shawn Michaels was told to help JBL beat Cena for the title. Nobody really cared if Cena or JBL would walk away with the title, what they wanted to know is if HBK would turn on the fans and again help JBL to a win. Great outcome to the match, and a perfect setup for No Way Out.

WWE Championship: Jeff Hardy Vs Edge: 4.5/5

Probably the best singles match of the night, all the bad things happening to Jeff the few weeks (Jeff's car accident, pyro burning him etc.) before meant nothing going into this match, nobody expected Jeff's own brother to turn on him after all these years. This was only the beginning of the Hardy/Hardy feud which would go on to Wrestlemania 25 in a classic Brother Vs Brother match.

2009 Royal Rumble Match: 4/5

The only thing I didn't like about this match, is it was WAY to predictable, a week before the event we saw Randy Orton punt kicking Vince McMahon in the skull, for me this sealed Orton as the winner of the Royal Rumble match. Other than that, it's a Rumble that wouldn't be forgotten anytime soon, we saw Legacy team up for Ortons advantage, the one night return of Rob Van Dam, Santino setting the NEW record for shortest amount of time in a Rumble match (1 second).

Still a great PPV to buy.

jack swagger vs matt hardy ecw championship:pretty normal match swagger was always going to win hardy should never of been champion anyway.6/10

melina vs beth phoenix womens title:cant belive how much melina bended although beth phoenix should have won because she dominated most of the match best diva match of the year.8/10

john cena vs jbl world title:cena was always going to win there was a good atmosphere espcially when micheals superkicked cena and jbl although the match was pretty boring from a person who likes grapple manouvoures.7/10

edge vs jeff hardy:great match it had everything i dont usually say this but vickie guerreo made a great decision making the match a no disquallifucation match the best moment was when hardy jumped off the ladder thourgh the table that had chavo guerreo on it the match deserved a better ending and hardy should of retained and then matt hardy should of turned on jeff later and then it would of been jeff vs matt at wrestlemania for the wwe title in a ladder match.10/10

royal rumble match:cant belive taker didnt win he probably would have if it wasnt for the big show great comeback for rvd great peformance by rey mysterio i just wish legacy got tripleh out so those three were left to fight each other cant belive orton won.9/10

i recomned this dvd as well as the other rumbles 3rd best ppv of the year
