Great Survivor Series from 2003 with some awesome matches involving some of the greatest talents in the WWE.

World Heavyweight Championship Match ****
Goldberg vs. Triple H

Quite a good main event between Triple H and Goldberg. I really loved Triple H's performance in this one as he was mega focused on getting his title back from Goldberg after losing it to him at the Unforgiven PPV. This match itself had a bit of a fun side when all of Evolution showed up and Goldberg slamming the sledgehammer that was brought into the match into the likes of Flair, Orton and Batista. Towards the end Goldberg gave Triple H a perfect Spear and Jackhammer to retain the WHC.

Buried Alive Match ***
Undertaker vs. Mr. McMahon

Not a classic but overall quite fun to see the first 10-15mins of this match seeing Mr McMahon get his ass whooped by the Undertaker. Quite surprised that Mr McMahon got busted up when Taker gave him one punch to the face and blood was just gushing out of Mr McMahon. The match itself was gruesome but the match ended up with a shocker of Kane helping Mr McMahon to burie The Undertaker at a PPV he debuted at.

Classic Survivor Series Match *****
Team Austin (Booker T, Bubba Ray Dudley, Devon Dudley, RVD and Shawn Michaels) vs. Team Bischoff (Chris Jericho, Christian, Mark Henry, Randy Orton and Scott Steiner)

My second favourite match of the night where Austin/Bischoff formed a team of their own. The match is most remembered for the effort of Shawn Michaels who was left the last man in Austins team as all the other members were eliminated. Shawn Michaels did all he could for Austin until Batista came out and ruined the match by giving Shawn Michaels a Batista Bomb. It would have been great to have seen Shawn Michaels win this match because he was the top star of this great Survivor Series elimination tag match.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match ***
Basham Brothers vs. Eddie & Chavo Guerrero

Okish tag match with some good spots from Los Guerreros. Would say that Los Guerreros should have won this tag match to become tag champions but the Bashams had some help on retaining their tag team titles.

The Final Encounter Ambulance Match *****
Shane McMahon vs. Kane

Match of the night for me because I loved this rivalry between Shane McMahon and Kane. I loved the way that this match got took all over the arena and the segment in the parking lot was just great. I loved the way that Shane was performing when he did a elbow drop on Kane through the announcers table and a sky high jump off the ambulance onto Kane who had a trash can in front of him. It was a shame that Shane didn't win this match but Kane totally demolished Shane at the end by using the ambulance as a weapon and finally Kane signalled the end for Shane with a tombstone piledriver. Awesome Match :)

Women's Championship Match **
Molly Holly vs. Lita

Not a bad divas match considering it had the loveable Lita in it. I would say that Molly Holly was impressive in this divas match. Lita did do pretty well and she had her moments of domination but she fell into a turnbuckle that Molly Holly undone to cheat her way into retaining her title.

Classic Survivor Series Match ****

Team Angle (Bradshaw, Chris Benoit, Hardcore Holly, John Cena and Kurt Angle) vs. Team Lesnar (A-Train, Big Show, Brock Lesnar, Matt Morgan and Nathan Jones)

A great way to start the Survivor Series 2003 PPV with a traditional Survivor Series elimination tag match. Have to say that this was my second favourite elimination match of the night and would say that this match kicked off Survivor Series to a very good level.

2003 was a severe drop in quality from previous years as far as the WWE goes. However, this was one of the best PPVs of that year:
Team Lesnar Vs Team Angle - 7.5/10
Lita Vs Molly Holly - 6.5/10
Shane Vs Kane - 7/10
Guerreros Vs Bashams - 6/10
Team Austin Vs Team Bischoff - 9/10
Vince Mcmahon Vs Undertaker - 5/10
Goldberg Vs Triple H - 5.5/10
Overall - 7.5/10

I consider this PPV one of the best WWE have done, definitely in the last 6/7 years, if not EVER!
Some lackluster matches, however doesn't take anything away from the PPV, as there are at least 3 matches on here that could be considered as match of the year candidates.

Team Angle vs Team Lesnar - Great opener, really gets you looking forward to the Austin/Bischoff Match. Would've liked to see Hardcore Holly for longer than a few seconds, though. other than that, great moves put on by all competitors, especially John Cena with one of his gigantic 500 pound FUs!
Really got the evening off on a high, 7/10

Lita vs Molly Holly - OK match, quite fast paced, for me doesn't add or take away anything from the PPV. Great show by Lita, with a very nice powerbomb from the ropes, a Litasault and also very impressive selling of the finish with the exposed turnbuckle.
Filler, but no killer, 5/10

Kane vs Shane - GREAT match, so unpredictable, I always skip to this match :). Lots of backstage action, involving a SUV and a security booth, and also lots of innovative uses of the ambulance - lots of credit to Kane, especally when he took the ambulance door straight to the face (not sure whether Shane was meant to do it that hard though!) Awesome coast to coast from Shane as well from the top of the ambulance, and the finish was also very clean.
Awesome match, near perfect, and also gave me good memories from the Attitude era, 9/10

Nice spot from the Coach and Mark Cuban, and very shocking RKO as well from Randy Orton; nice time waster, but entertaining.

Bashams vs Los Guerreros - Like the Women's title match, pretty average match compared to the rest of the action on the card. Some nice selling of brutality from all competitors, and good heat created by the Bashams. Very shocking frogsplash on Shaniqua, and funny spanking moment, but overall the match maybe went on a bit too long. Also I thought, after all the action throughout the bout, finishing it by a schoolboy hooking the tights felt very rushed and did for me effect its overall rating.
Average, maybe a bit boring, did nothing for me really, 4/10

Team Austin vs Team Bischoff - AMAZING match, just thoroughly enjoyed this match, nothing short of incredible. Started quite slowly, but picked up so much later on. Great action including everyone performing their finishers on Mark Henry and all piling on to get the pin, and very very good show by Shawn Michaels, selling the blood almost perfectly. Very heat building finish by Batista, and you knew that there would definitely be some backlash to follow this match.
Solid match, couldn't really ask for anything more, match of the night, 10/10

Undertaker vs Vince McMahon - very gory match this one, even had me cringing in places! Lots and lots of blood on the part of Vince, maybe quite unrealistic however, as he started bleeding about 5 seconds into the match! Good selling by both men, really made it feel genuinely personal, and VERY unpredictable finish by Kane. Just a very very solid match, very enjoyable.
I remember that this was the one I was looking forward to most when I watched it live all those years ago, and although it didn't let me down, I was left thinking it could've been slightly longer, and slightly more varied action (there was just lots of punching and uses of the ring post), but still very good, 8.5/10

Goldberg vs HHH - another similar match to their confrontation at Unforgiven from both men, but still another solid performance. Wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other matches on the card, and in my opinion the Austin/Bischoff match should've been the main event, as Goldberg retaining really did just end the PPV rather suddenly and on a fairly average finish. This takes nothing away from the match as a match, however, and was still very good quality wrestling from both men, 7/10

Awesome PPV, definitely without a doubt worth a buy, overall rating, *****

Wicked PPV there ae 2 matches on the card thats stole the show, the burried alive match had so much blood coming from vince i couldent belive it, there is some really gory stuff in that match including undertaker smashing vinces leg inbetween the steel steeps and smashing his face with the shuvell and crushing the shuvle. The ambulance match was also pretty good, shane jumped off the ropes and smashed kane through the announcers desk is the best bit, there are plenty more good matches so its worth it 100%. Overall score 9.5/10

The 17th annual Survivor Series, from Dallas in the Lone Star State of Texas, promised to be one of the biggest events of the year, with two massive 5-on-5 elimination matches and a World Heavyweight Championship match as the featured bouts. Held on November 16, 2003, here's what went down at this joint production of Raw and SmackDown.

A "traditional Survivor Series" match opened the show, as Kurt Angle's team, including Bradshaw, John Cena, Hardcore Holly and Chris Benoit, faced WWE Champion Brock Lesnar's squad, including Matt Morgan, Big Show, Nathan Jones and A-Train, purported to be the biggest ever team (in terms of total weight) to have competed at a Survivor Series PPV. Despite the body mass of Team Lesnar, they couldn't beat the babyfaces, and Benoit and Cena were the survivors for Team Angle, wth Cena last eliminating U.S Champion Big Show in an exciting opener.

Molly Holly retained her Women's Championship in an average match, before the first ever (to the best of my knowledge) WWE Ambulance match, the culmination of the long-running and personal feud between Shane McMahon and Kane. Another outstanding hardcore encounter between the son of the boss and the super-heavyweight, which saw some impressive risks being taken by Shane-O-Mac. He ultimately lost the match when Kane dumped him in the ambulance situated in the arena, and this wouldn't be the last time we saw 'The Big Red Machine' tonight.

Next was a slightly disappointing WWE Tag Team Championship match pitting new champions Doug and Danny Basham against former title-holders Chavo and Eddie Guerrero. A match mainly on the card to set up the upcoming family feud between Chavo and Eddie, it was inoffensive enough, but the Bashams weren't particularly over with fans, and the break-up of Los Guerreros had been teased now for a few weeks. The second and final 5-on-5 elimination tag team bout followed, as Stone Cold Steve Austin's career as Raw General Manager was on the line. If his team lost to Eric BIschoff's crew, 'The Rattlesnake' would have to leave Raw and Bischoff would once again take 100% control of the Monday Night brand. Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley represented Austin, while their opponents on Team Bischoff were Randy Orton, Christian, Chris Jericho, Scott Steiner and Mark Henry. This was an absolutely outstanding match: for me, the best bout of 2003, with high-intensity action from start to finish. Orton was the sole survivor for his team after pinning Michaels with an assist from Evolution's Batista, and Stone Cold was done as co-GM.

The big matches kept on coming, with the Undertaker versus Mr. McMahon in the first Buried Alive match on WWE pay-per-view in five years. Company chairman Vince earned a surprise win over 'The American Bad Ass' with help from Undertaker's "half-brother" Kane, and this would be the last time we saw Undertaker's "biker character" in WWE, as he would make his return at WrestleMania XX in the vintage guise of 'The Phenom'. The PPV main-event was a rematch for the World Heavyweight title, as Goldberg, who'd won the belt at Unforgiven two months prior, once again faced Triple H. 'The Game' had, on Raw, placed a $100,000 bounty on Bill's head, which was eventually cashed in by his Evolution stablemate Batista, who had smashed up Goldberg's angle. Now the World Champion was an injured underdog and it seemed likely that HHH would regain "his" title. It wasn't to be on this night for 'The Cerebral Assasin', as Goldberg defeated HHH in a match that was a marked improvement on their dismal Unforgiven effort, mainly because it was shorter in length. Long bouts didn't really suit 'Da Man', and Triple H was in late summer and early autumn still struggling with niggling injuries himself and excess bulk.

Survivor Series 2003 was a critical triumph: it felt like a "Big 4" pay-per-view, and most of the matches were of a superior quality, especially the incredible Raw brand elimination match. Perhaps not quite as exciting as the `02 Survivor Series, which saw every title defended change hands, but the `03 event is excellent in it's own right, and one of the better PPVs of this particular year.
